Roll my fabric stash so I would be able to more completely fill the space (and add and remove fabric), and it would therefore be less accessible/appealing to cats, and they would be less likely to knock it all off as they came and went.

Hmmm...yah, right. Still get to test the hypothesis of it not getting knocked askew.
