Wow!

I knew that red trilliums could be a phase of development, but I'd never seen it happening. This was the white trillium I posted earlier...

The Long Weekend

Not the play by Norm Foster. That's packed up in dry dock, waiting to move to Port Dover, and then to Kincardine.
Nope, I'm talking about camping on the long weekend. Each year we go to Ameliasburgh Museum for their opening weekend, and are part of a black powder rendezvous. Well, not much black powder actually, but lots of buckskinners, and some French Indian War people, and some suttlers... And a potluck, and some games, and a lot of old friends.
The toad who had to move a few yards when we dug our firepit.

Some of the camps.

Pete, being stylish.

Where's Waldo?

Wednesday in Wareham

It appears we are such evil pet-owners, and never ever feed our pets or look after their needs, that poor Charv was forced to go off and find his own mid-morning snack. At least it wasn't one of the koi!

And near the pond, Darrell found a single lost robin's egg. But we could find no nest to even try to replace it in. Sad.

But to cheer me up, it does appear that I have a red trillium in the forest garden. They're so much more exotic and elegant than the white ones. Though all trilliums are welcome!

Claudio's Garden

I thought that, since my neighbour Claudio is not here, it's more of a summer home, and he won't be here for a while yet, that rather than let his garden go to waste, I'd take my camera over there, and practice on *his* plants!

And then, since I have a few daffs of my own worth photographing, I thought I could just slip them in....

Aha! Vandy plays with the camera...

I thought that after a year (or almost) of having this camera, a Canon PowerShot A510, I should actually be a bit methodical in learning how it works... (as opposed to catch as catch can in a desperate 'need it this instant' kind of way.)
I'd been trying to figure out about focus, because not all my shots of growing things seem to work. And just today I was browsing a cooking blog, that is interspersed with stunning photography, and my blurry haphazard attempts just don't cut it. Not when I have a reasonably decent camera. (Not high end, but pretty good for lower end.)
So, I was just playing with the macro setting. And I'm starting to get a feel for it... Okay, out in the bright sun, I can't see the display screen very well, and if I wear my sunglasses outside, they're not bifocal, and then I have trouble seeing the camera!
But I think this is closer to working:

Anniversary

Well, it's been a year and a day since Coco decided to move in. And she just improves with knowing. Pretty much once a week, we ask each other why her previous owners didn't want her.Any of them. She's just a really sweet little cat. Even our other cats don't hate her as much now. (Mind you, she's stopped bitch-slapping them. That might have something to do with it!)

Wild Leeks

It occurred to me, that to really complete the photo series, I should have included a shot of the total leek, top to bottom. So here it is.

A Walk on the Wild Side

So, I went off to the woods today. Judging by my transplanted wild leeks in my little forest garden, it was time to look into a first harvesting. At this stage, the leeks are mostly green tops, but full of flavour, and make a delicate salad green, or can be used in sautes. (I'm planning on doing some up with a bit of cheese to serve with pasta this evening. Yum!)

Different fields between my house and the forest seem to be lying fallow this year, or at this moment, so I was able to head cross country, and get to the fun stuff much more quickly.

A pretty little Trout Lily. I have trout lilies in my forest garden, but they can take many years to flower, so I still only have leaves. But they showed up on their own initiative, so I can't complain; something to look forward to!

Beautiful carpets of violets. And a suspicious observer.

Then, for people who are always asking me what leeks look like in the wild, a series of shots, to try and give the context, as well as some detailed shots in scale.
